 | Jean-Thomas Cornelis is Associate Professor of Soil Science at the University of British Columbia. Originally trained as a bioscience engineer, he completed his PhD in soil science at UCLouvain. His work sits at the crossroads of pedology, soil biogeochemistry, and ecosystem science, with a strong interest in the links between soil processes, plant functioning, and element cycling in terrestrial environments. His research explores how soils and their biogeochemical dynamics respond to both natural processes and human-driven environmental change. He works on a range of topics, including the silicon cycle, soil–plant interactions, biochar, soil carbon stabilization, and sustainable soil management. Across these themes, his aim is to better understand and support the resilience of soil–plant systems while helping to reduce the environmental impact of land use. |
